Supported Employment of Virginia (SEV) was founded to provide community-based employment options to people with disabilities and has never provided facility-based services. SEV is by definition, and mission, a true community-based organization. SEV considers segregated facility-based services as antiquated, unnecessary, and believes that any form of segregated services is disrespectful to the people we serve.

However, the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services requires that all employment vendors receive certification from one single source – CARF (The Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

The philosophy of SEV does not support the idea of having a single source for program evaluations and especially does not support an organization like CARF, an organization with a history steeped in providing surveys for segregated facility based services, as the sole survey provider of accreditation services.

With the goal of continuing to provide the highest quality supported employment services SEV is seeking approval from the State of Virginia for an alternative evaluation source that is both economical and tailored to the needs of community based employment programs.
